Ben Gibbard – “Ichiro’s Theme” {Rock/Pop}

Ben Gibbard AKA the vocalist of Death Cab for Cutie has just revealed his debut solo track which pays homage to baseballer Ichiro Suzuki (who was recently traded from the Seattle Mariners to the New York Yankees). The track is off Gibbard’s forthcoming solo album Former Lives which will be released on October 16th.

SBTRKT – “Gloss” {Experimental/Electronic}

SBTRKT ain’t no MSTRKRFT, but this British producer definitely knows how to pen some great electronica tuneage. Given that it’s his style to post random tracks on his Soundcloud account, it couldn’t come as much of a surprise to fans that there’s no word about the song being included on an upcoming release.

The Babies – “Moonlight Mile” {Alternative Rock}

The side project of Cassie Ramone of Vivian Girls and Kevin Morby of Woods has been making waves in the indie rock scene over the past couple of years, and with a Pixies-like strum and a psych/garage rock vibe it’s easy to see why. This brand new track will be released as a single on August 14th, and will also be included on their sophomore LP Our House on the Hill.

GRiZ – “The Future is Now” {Funk/Hip Hop}

GriZ (whose real name is Grant Kwiecinski) is a 21-year-old Detroit native who self-describes his own tunes as “future funk,” but you can definitely hear traces of hip hop, funk, soul and electronic in this brand new track.

Helio Sequence – “October” {Alternative Rock} + Free download

It’s been two long years since we heard from this Portland-based band, so we were pretty stoked when we read that the band will be releasing their sophomore album via Sub Pop this September. Plus they posted the track as a free download; goodness all around.

Stars – “Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It” {Pop}

The Québécois Starlets are back with their brand new (and sixth) album titled The North, which will be released on September 4th. This is actually the second single off the new album, with the first single (“The Theory of Relativity”) being released last month.

Sun Airway – “Close” {Alternative Rock}

Even though Sun Airway’s new album Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandeliers isn’t out until October 26th, the band has decided to release the first single off the album well in advance. The slightly experimental track covers a broad range of genres from electronic and new wave, to pop and indie rock.

Kindness – “That’s Alright” {Electronic/Dance}

Our favourite long-haired Londoner is back with a brand new album World, You Need A Change Of Mind, and its single sounds slightly “Fame”-ish, a little bit retro and definitely a contrast to Kindness’ most notable tunes; (see “Cyan” and “Swinging Party“).

How to Dress Well – “Cold Nites” {Experimental Pop/R&B}

Thanks to this one-man band and Frank Ocean, it’s clear that 2012 is going to be a great year for the R&B music scene. The track is off the Brooklyn-based producer’s forthcoming album Total Loss which is set for release on September 18th.

Two Door Cinema Club – “Sleep Alone” {Alternative Rock}

Heads up to all you Two Door Cinema Club fans out there, the band has just revealed the lead single from their sophomore album Beacon.

The Mountain Goats – “Cry for Judas” {Folk/Rock} + Free download

This California band is prepping to release yet another album this October, but have decided to tease fans by releasing its first single well in advance. If you dig the tune then make sure you grab its free download.

Crystal Castles – “Plague” {Experimental/Noise Pop} + Free download

I know all you hardcore Crystal Castles fans have been waiting patiently for the follow-up to their highly-acclaimed 2010 album, and the day you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. Apparently the forthcoming album hasn’t been named; (yet another self-titled one perhaps?), but it is expected to be released in September.
